Engagement Driven Organizational Culture

 

Intricately linked to the very tangible strategic, operational, technical and organizational issues for any company, is its culture. The culture of an organization creates the social fabric within which all the activities of an organization occur.

 

Time and again, in our engagements across multiple organizations, we have observed the significant impact of the underlying cultural issues which affect the business in many ways. For an untrained eye, it may not be possible to analytically dissect these issues let alone create a constructive plan to bring about a needed cultural shift. On many occasions, leaders and managers who do recognize that a cultural shift is needed, approach it in a one size fits all style, often to end up disheartened as to why their efforts are not being productive. It is not uncommon in such scenarios to resort to a handful of managerial tactics, but just with greater force and rigor which ultimately never addresses the root cause of the cultural issues at hand, and in fact may end up reinforcing the problem even further.

 

At Kamnor, we work with your team, and through a variety of methods including in-depth informational interviews quickly pinpoint the maladjustments. We create a plan to mitigate the issues which are at play so we can help address the underlying cultural issues in the organization. In fact, most often than not, we have found that the root cause for the issues fall within a limited set. These issues are addressable much more quickly and expediently than what the leaders or business owners may have at first imagined.

Executive Teams and CEOs

 

CEOs and executive team members are the standard bearers and primary influencers of the culture for their organization. These individuals are highly visible throughout the company, and how they lead and manage has a significant effect on how the people feel about their work, how they approach their day-to-day activities and ultimately how they contribute to the business.

 

While most executives are somewhat cognizant of whether or not their company or business unit has a culture which positively reinforces the company strategy and goals, they do not have sharp incisive insight about the underpinnings and the root causes for the cultural issues which are at play. So, it becomes difficult for them to address something which they do not have a full understanding of but rather just a vague feeling about. Most executives have functional expertise; functional expertise got them the promotion. They now need a different set of skills to operate at the executive level. They need "organizational acumen". Executives who seek to address cultural issues without actively utilizing the much needed organizational acumen tend to reinforce “gut instinct” based managerial tactics which they are comfortable with, which ultimately leads to below par results.
